gas prices could rise due to currency fluctuations
Russian gas price (at the border) had increased from $150 to $165 per 1000m3 in 2019. Although the Russian currency Ruble was devaluing against the Dollar, Armenia was/is paying for gas with Dollars. Since 2019, the Pashinyan administration has been trying to convince Russia to implement a different gas payment mechanism within the EAEU trade bloc. Making payments in Rubles instead of Dollars was one of the priorities: "We are constantly talking about high dollarization within the EAEU, but we still pay for Russian gas in dollars. Our proposal was that it would be more correct if we paid for gas in rubles, because I think it is more logical, also within the EAEU," said Pashinyan in early 2020. This idea was also shared by Vladimir Putin's personal adviser back in October 2018. It appears the EAEU has been working towards this goal lately. But meanwhile, Armenia has to pay for Russian gas in Dollars. With Armenian Dram devaluing against the Dollar, the pricing for consumers will likely be revised. Consumers pay 139 Drams per cubic meter. This was calculated in 2020 when $1 was 480 Drams. Today $1 = 520 Drams. Large consumers pay in Dollars and have their rates adjusted periodically, while small consumers (general public) pays in Drams. Armenia imports 2.2 billion m3 gas from Russia annually, at the price of $165 per 1000m3. 0.7 billion of it is consumed by the general public. Dram was devalued by 6.6% since November. This could prompt the internal gas company to raise the prices, including for the general public. https://armenpress.am/arm/news/1039886.html http://www.armbanks.am/en/2020/04/07/128024/ https://neftegaz.ru/en/news/energy/406887-armenia-should-pay-for-russian-gas-in-rubles/

former PACE MP sentenced to 4 years for taking bribes from Azerbaijan
An Italian court has concluded that Italian PACE representative Luca Volonte, who is the former head of the European People's Party, took €2.4 million in bribes from the Aliyev regime in 2012-2013. The bribe was handed over by Azerbaijan's PACE delegation leader Suleymanov. The scheme was coordinated by an Azeri lobbying firm based in Brussels. In return, the MP gave Azerbaijan favors during PACE and Italian Parliament sessions. https://armenpress.am/arm/news/1039927.html Tags: #caviar
POWs and searches
The search crews in Artsakh discovered bodies of 10 soldiers and 1 civilian in Jabrayil, Hadrut, and Sgnakh regions. The civilian has already been identified by his relatives. The cause of death is being investigated. Many bodies under the possession of the Armenian side are yet to be identified, while more bodies will likely be found during daily searches for the foreseeable future. Overall, 575 calls have been made by families who are looking for missing relatives, says the Russian humanitarian envoy in Artsakh. https://armenpress.am/arm/news/1039900.html , https://www.panarmenian.net/arm/news/289293/ Human Rights Ombudsman Tatoyan once again criticized Azerbaijan for intentionally politicizing and delaying the POW swap mission. "It is against international laws to file felony cases and arrest POWs because that's a form of a prohibited punishment. Azerbaijan is also hiding the true number of POWs." The Ombudsman has noted that Armenian residents in Tegh, Vorotan, and several other bordering villages have lost access to 2500 hectares of farming lands due to border changes. (some lands that were internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan were given to Azerbaijan after the war). https://armenpress.am/arm/news/1039933.html , https://factor.am/327226.html , https://www.armtimes.com/hy/article/204175
POW discussions: general prosecutor meets Azeri counterpart
Chief prosecutor Arthur Davtyan and his Azeri counterpart were invited to Russia. The three sides held a conversation about the establishment of future contacts in the field of international law and other related topics. Prosecutor Davtyan mentioned the importance of implementing the November 9th statement about the return of POWs, "which will serve as an assurance for implementation of other [trade unblocking] issues." https://armenpress.am/arm/news/1039953.html , https://armenpress.am/arm/news/1039972.html
how much will a new railway network cost?
Azeri economists believe it will cost around $430 million to build a railway network connecting Kars(TR)-Nakhijevan(AZ)-Meghri(AM)-Zangelan(AZ)-Baku(AZ). Overall, if you add Gyumri between Kars and Nakhijevan, it could cost about $434 million. Economists believe Armenia can use this network to connect with Russia via two directions: Gyumri-Nakhijevan-Meghri-Baku (southern trip), or Ijevan-Ghazakh-Baku (northern trip). https://www.panarmenian.net/arm/news/289313/
rumors & rebuttals: traitors are not selling Azeri juice in Armenia
Telegram channel Mediaport circulated rumors that "Azeri Sandora juice is being sold in Armenia". The misinformation was picked up by several outlets and caused confusion among the buyers. Fact-checkers contacted Sandora's local importer who said the producer is a Ukrainian company that sells its product in multiple post-Soviet republics, so they have one unified tag that contains information both in Armenian and Azeri languages. https://fip.am/14469
Pricing for 43 commonly-consumed items was examined by the consumer protection agency in Artsakh. 12 became more expensive, 5 cheaper, 26 remained the same. Onion +25%, cottege cheese +6%, milk +6%, gloves +5%, ..., pear -12%, rice -1%, eggs -1%, butter -1%. Several dairy product prices went up, and since Artsakh has dairy companies that own dominant market share, the consumer agency will launch an investigation to see if there was price-fixing. https://armenpress.am/arm/news/1039946.html
seismic resistance assessment for old buildings
A significant portion of Armenia's large apartment complex buildings were built half a century ago. They may not be seismically safe, considering Armenia's geolocation. After the 1988 earthquake, some buildings remain populated despite being deemed highly unsafe. Many other buildings have safety irregularities. It is necessary to assess the situation, so the Urban Development Committee has drafted a bill "Methodology for assessing the priority of increasing the seismic resistance of buildings and structures". https://armenpress.am/arm/news/1039887.html
IRS will closely monitor gambling industry / RFID chips & servers
IRS press release: gambling facilities and online betting services will be more closely monitored. We worked with international experts to digitize the gambling industry and bring it on par with international standards. All gambling machines and platforms operating in Armenia will be connected to one server which will be connected to a monitoring Center. All betting and winning transactions will be recorded. The Center will also install RFID microchips in casinos to monitor the movement of chips, the chips purchased or won by players, in real-time. The government's Digital Council has approved the bill, which is yet to be discussed and voted in the Parliament. The goal is to be able to monitor the financial flows in this sector and to estimate the actual revenues. It will combat money laundering. large quantities of illegally-cut trees were busted
Context: An incident happened last week between parents of drafted soldiers and military officials at a military unit. The parents wanted assurances that their sons would be safe after being deployed on Artsakh borders. The parents wanted to know why Armenian soldiers are still being sent to Artsakh "despite the November 9th statement saying Armenians should withdraw from Artsakh." During the confrontation, an incident happened between a military official and a journalist. The official struck the camera and instructed it to be turned off. Several media outlets released a message condemning the officer for hindering the journalist's work. https://armenpress.am/arm/news/1039973.html

The National Center for Oncology has purchased the latest generation tools and will perform a free and enjoyable colonoscopy for residents over the age of 45, for the next 6 months. The goal is to detect suspicious growths at an early stage. It's the third most common cancer among adults in the world. It has become more common in Armenia in the past decade. When detected early, it can be fully treated. https://armenpress.am/arm/news/1039911.html
... we lift some of the restrictions! "Aye, aye, Captain!" "I can't hear you!" "The rule that limits attendance to non-commercial gatherings to no more than 60 people has been removed. All other safety requirements remain in place," said a Healthcare official. "You can enter Armenia via air or land by presenting negative COVID test results that were taken within the past 3 days. If you don't, you will be tested at the airport and will need to self-isolate until the results arrive." https://armenpress.am/arm/news/1039931.html
Armenia will soon import COVID vaccines
Healthcare Ministry: we are negotiating with multiple entities. The first batch of vaccines will arrive between late-January and mid-February. We are negotiating with producers whose vaccines have passed the necessary tests: Sputnik V, Pfizer, Moderna, and AstraZeneca. In the first phase, the vaccines will be given to the most vulnerable 10% of the population. https://armenpress.am/arm/news/1039921.html
Sputnik V vaccine has already been tested in Armenia
Healthcare Ministry: no complications were reported by the 15 patients, including Minister Torosyan. The often-discussed "skin redness" in the injection area has not been observed, either. The first injection gave a 91.4% efficiency. The second increased it to 94%. Even if the vaccine doesn't fully prevent the infection, it can save the patient's life by making the case mild (is that right??). https://armenpress.am/arm/news/1039925.html
the new COVID strain: good news, bad news
Doctor Davit Melik-Nubaryan: the version of COVID that mutated in the UK will eventually reach Armenia. Preliminary data shows that those who have already been infected and gained immunity from the original COVID will be immune to this new strain. It is believed that the immunity will last 6-12 months for the majority. The good news is that the new strain isn't more deadly and doesn't result in heavier cases. The bad news is that it spreads a lot faster. The Healthcare system could be overloaded again. The vaccines against the original strain will likely work against the new one. Pharmaceutical companies may have to modify the vaccines, but it will only take weeks. Closing borders with the UK won't be helpful to prevent it. We may already have the new strain. We need to develop a new strategy from the ground up. Viruses mutate all the time. It's part of the evolution. Sometimes they cause more severe symptoms, sometimes lesser. From the evolutionary and survival standpoint, viruses want to cause less severe symptoms for the host so they can have a chance to spread wider. https://armenpress.am/arm/news/1039856.html
Armenian scientists will study the COVID strain
CDC chief Bakunts: Armenia will have the ability to study the genetic mutations of the coronavirus. Active work is underway to invest in research resources. Meanwhile, we can submit a virus sample to a WHO laboratory to conduct a study for us. https://armenpress.am/arm/news/1039962.html
families with newborn children receive mortgage subsidy
450 families have so far taken advantage of a government subsidy program that helps with purchasing apartments. ֏526 million will be paid as part of this 2020-2023 program. It is part of a recent initiative to boost the birthrate. Two other aid programs went into effect in mid-2020. Provincial families received a downpayment subsidy equalling 5% of the total price. Another one subsidizes insurance payments. The same family can apply for all three programs, and there is no age limit for parents. https://factor.am/327385.html

The crew had planned a major performance about Yezidi national legend but the 44-day war began and some were drafted. The crew ended up performing the "шəp' y əBин" during the war. It's about the importance of Yezidis in Armenia, and their love for the country. The January 17th performance will be dedicated to Yezidis who died fighting. The performers aren't professional actors but they received acting training on-the-fly. "It seems to work because their enthusiasm is great. I cut off my best friend of 13 years.i feel terrible and want to make things right but believe it's impossible.what should I do?
So this is going to be a long read and I feel like I'm acting like a whiny b**** but I'm tired of ignoring my feelings. But I also worried that I might be wrong. Thank you all for any advice you can give. So I met this dude back in high school named Kyle he was an outcast had no friends very bad personal hygiene always wore trench coats even in the dead of Summer. We met because this kid named Jacob who was kind of an ass but in a funny way we were all cool with him just walked up to me and my other friend Alex and said here's some outcasts you can hang out with. The rest was history we got along fantastic we became our own little group of friends and always hung out every single day. Kyle was severely depressed never left his house and his room was disgusting like moldy food plates and piss bottles.after I came over to his house for the first time I made it a point to start taking him out with me even if it was just for a bike ride and eventually I helped him get over his shut in tendencies. I came over and me and my girlfriend cleaned his room for him multiple times and would take him out and pay for everything to try and get him out of the funk. I sat him down and we had a long talk about his personal hygiene in the nicest way I could and basically I worked with him to help him become a regular functioning person and beat his depression as I knew what he was going through as I am clinically diagnosed with depression and PTSD. After we started breaking him out of some of his bad habits his life started dramatically improving. He started making friends outside of our group and was just generally a happier person and I was happy for him. I would go over and help his family and him with whatever they needed as I saw them as my family because I didn't really have one I didn't talk to my mother for over 6 years because she didn't have somewhere to stay I let her come stay with us and she brought her heroin addict boyfriend with her who was not supposed to be there and threatened my landlord. Agreement was a place to stay for her and my brother. They ended up leaving without paying rent and lied to everyone and said I kicked them out when I only told her that he had to leave causing her and my younger brother to be homeless while he went back to his mother's house. The problem started around 2015 in May when my ex's dog had puppies. He wanted one and we were both okay with that. So about a month after that conversation my ex wanted to go to Reno to take a mini-vacation and go gambling at the casinos so he agreed to come over and watch the dogs for a week. We came back he was gone and so was one of the puppies that was too young to be taken away from their mother.I called him and told him he had to bring the dog back and he cussed me out and told me I told him he can have it and he wasn't giving it back.3 weeks pass of us not talking and I ended up going over and apologizing for the situation and just letting it go as he was taking care of the puppy giving it formula and the dog was doing fine. After that he started avoiding me it was just little things at first like he didn't come over or ask me to come over anymore and would only show up around half the time he said he was going to. Stopped playing online games with me and only started talking to me again when his girlfriend cheated on him. I was there for him through the whole thing he started staying over for weeks at a time and I did everything I could to keep him from falling back into his depression letting him know it wasn't his fault he was a good boyfriend and he would find someone someday that would recognize that. After he got over her he ended up going back to the same old contacting me less and less responding to my calls and texts less and less to the point where we weren't really talking by the time 2018 rolled around. In January of 2018 I became homeless because of my fiance at the time who was doing drugs behind our back came home one night from doing a bad batch of whatever she was on was hearing voices and threatened my client who is a 65 year old woman (I work as a live-in nurse for people on hospice).Kyle heard through some of our mutual friends that I was homeless and his family offered to have me come live with them.I took them up on the offer and when I moved in I had to clean all the stuff out of the spare room that was just being used for storage for the last decade or so clean all the cat pee off the walls and steam clean the carpet. I lived there maybe a week before things started going south. His stepfather was unemployed and lied about being disabled to the state consistently and even bragged about it.I don't know if you've ever lived with a man but when they have nothing to do the first thing they start doing is picking on every little thing they can because they are bored. I had my dog living with me Carl who is a little 10 lb teacup poodle husky mix. He was completely housebroken and even litter box trained.so when I was at work I would leave him in the room with a full bowl of food and water and he would be completely fine. So I take this as an opportunity to rebuild my friendship with Kyle and try to hang out with him more just watching movies not even doing anything crazy and every single time he would make up some lie and leave before the movie was even done. At one point he just stopped caring told me he was going to go to bed and then just went to the living room and watched TV for the rest of the night.I ended up hanging out with my current best friend Angelo who I met back in high school when our girlfriends were going to get into a fist fight with each other and we wanted no part of it LOL. I ended up hanging out with him way more than Kyle Even though I literally lived with Kyle.which bothered me because I felt like he just didn't like me anymore and didn't want to be my friend he further cemented in when he would also lie wouldn't even hop on Xbox with me saying he was going to bed and then I catch him playing the exact same game with other people.I took him out for his birthday and he ended up literally ditching me to go hang out with his other friend.but I just ignored it and just stopped initiating contact first as I was tired of being blown off. I know I'm probably sounding like a girlfriend at this point and that's not the case but it was just hurting my feelings because I was going through a lot at the time and my best friend didn't give two s*. So I get home late from work and get chewed out by his parents that I came home after 10 when that was never the agreement that I had to be home before 10. The stepdad says it wasn't his job to watch my dog and I never asked him to but apparently he had been taking Carl out of the room and watching him.they were having me pay a little bit extra so that I can eat food at the house which is completely acceptable but during the conversation about me getting out of work late and getting there after 10 they start going off on me for eating a bag of chips that was meant for his sister's lunch (this was by far not the last bag of chips and no one informed me that there was food in the pantry that was off limits) so I apologize things move on like normal. I make it a point stop by Safeway on my way home and pick myself up dinner every night as to avoid touching anything I'm not supposed to. So around a week later I get off of work and I'm asked by my boss to go to a different site because they need some work done there before tomorrow and I would get overtime so I obviously take it. I call his mother and let her know that I am going to be home very late because my job needed me. I end up going about 4 cities away for the job and by the time I get off Bart is closed.luckily I had a friend who lived up there who let me sleep on the couch for the night.I texted his parents and let them know what was going on that I didn't have a way back and that Carl would be fine in the bedroom big didn't need to take him out he had a litter box and everything else he could need. I get back the next day and immediately get chewed out for not coming home tonight before saying they had to take care of my dog take him out to walk and everything else. He was in an air-conditioned room with food water and a litter box and all his toys he was completely fine. I apologize to them again explained the situation they're just not having it. It's becoming painfully obvious they never wanted me to move in in the first place especially since the stepdad has been telling me since day one that they could rent a room out to an old lady and get double the rent (fat chance with all the screaming that goes on in that house and two years later that room is still vacant) another few days go by and the grandfather comes over who I was on very good terms with I had helped him with a lot of his work for free and helped him clean out his storage and I'm sitting in my room and I start hearing them bad-mouthing me to him in the living room. I really had to pee but I felt extremely awkward going out there so I ended up peeing in a bottle. Then going to bed. A few days later I get off of work stop by Safeway to get food get back at around 11 since I got off at literally 10 and the step dad walks up to me like he's going to do something says (don't you dare f*** ever do that to me again it's not my job to watch your dog) so I finally straight-up tell him I never asked him to watch Carl he was completely fine in the bedroom and he needed to find a hobby instead of riding everyone's ass and avoiding work. The dude is literally a control freak and has pushed almost all their family away from them. I go into my room and I hear him stomp his ass up the stairs wake Kyle's mom up out of a sound sleep when she has work the next day to cuss her out about me getting home late. I heard every word.so she can't fall back asleep apparently and the next day she gets written up at work for being too tired and making a mistake she wouldn't have made if she was so tired.she comes up to me the next day and says that I woke her up when I came home last night. And that I needed to leave because I was going to cost her her job.I literally said I heard the entire conversation she was not awake Mickey woke her up and she just blew me off. Then said that my hollow apologies didn't fix my screw-ups.guess I should have told her to f*** off like literally everyone else in the household did. Kyle comes downstairs hearing the argument and starts defending his stepdad saying that his mom was already awake and Mickey didn't do anything and I literally told him to his face that I heard everything his stepdad was so goddamn loud. He completely threw me under the bus they told me I had to leave within a week or pay them extra rent to stay till the end of the month. I left a few days later without saying a word to anyone. I ended up moving in with my friend Angelo who I have to say is an absolute saint. We literally shared a room had opposite work schedules and my dog they're on top of it and he never complained once. He helped me get back on my feet pull my s*** together and get my own place. I didn't initially cut contact with Kyles family until about a year later when I really started thinking about the whole situation and realized how ridiculous it was. But I never actually cut contact with him just his family. It really hurt my feelings that they treated me like one of their own whenever they needed help with something and then the moment I needed help I was trash help I didn't even ask for but was offered to me.I didn't have much of a family so his family was like a surrogate family to me and I never would have thought they would behave like that. So Kyle randomly contacts me on and off and in December 2018 my ex and first girlfriend dies of an overdose which I know it shouldn't have messed me up but it did.then in July of 2019 my fiance who had at this point admitted to her drug problems and was seeking help relapsed and died. Leaving me with our daughter. Then in December 2019 my sister killed my dog because I made the mistake of letting my family back into my life. I had a one phone call from Kyle after all this and then spotty text messaging or he wouldn't reply for weeks at a time after that so I decided the friendship was dead it was time to cut him off.I felt extremely guilty doing so so I didn't tell him I just blocked him on Facebook and changed my number. So in June he contacts my mother to try and get in contact with me and asks if I blocked him and if I was mad. I lied and said no because honestly I just didn't feel like dealing with all the b******* right now I'm not in a good place. Well yesterday I finally had a moment where I started feeling better and I just wanted to get all this s*** out of the way and I know I don't want to be his friend anymore because we weren't even really friends anymore anyways. It really hurt me that I had been there for him whenever he had bouts of depression he had a life that was 100 times easier than mine and couldn't be there for me when I was going through s*** myself. He has never had to work he's always had something to fall back on he's never even paid for a car they've all just been given to him but he acted like he had it so rough and I wasn't condescending I was there for him. So here's our final conversation and I want to know do you all think I'm lost in my bull shit like he says? Do I have a right to feel the way I'm feeling or am I overreacting? Me:So honestly I did lie and I did block you on FB.im always afraid of hurting people's feelings for whatever reason.i am not your friend you are not my friend it has become blatantly obvious over the last six years that you do not like me kyle.honestly this "friendship" has caused me more emotional stress than anything else.i literally hung out with Angelo more when I literally lived with you.i lied about stealing from my job and you failed the test I cannot trust you anymore either.when I was living with you guys and Mickey literally stomped his ass upstairs and I heard everything including him waking your mother up you still lied and took his side you said that your mother was already awake from me getting back. You took Jager a dog you don't even want anymore from what I can see early caused me an insane amount of drama and I was the one who had to come over and apologize. You ditched me on the last birthday we hung out to go hang out with Richard. You wont even play a video game with me even when I give you the device to do it and you avoid me like the plague unless no one else picks up.when you were depressed I came over cleaned your room out for you multiple times took you out and tryed to help you feel better. When you had terrible personal hygiene and no one wanted to hang out with you I still did and even had a talk with you about it in the nicest way I could. I'm at the point in my life where I can't keep doing more for others than I do for myself.I can't keep getting upset that people don't want to hang out with me and I'm not going to.I want your mother to stay out of my business and stop looking up s*** about my daughter or I will report her. Even though I got woken up every single day by her yelling at 6 in the morning still went to work tired me coming home late from buying groceries because I got yelled at for eating a bag of chips was reason enough to kick me out according to her so I'm good. Also the real reason that piss was in the room was from the night your mom had your grandpa over and was talking massive crap about me and I didn't want to come out but i really had to pee.Even though I helped clean out that room which no one else ever would have done I was still told from day one that they could easily rent it out to an old lady and get paid more.well it's been 3 years now and I still don't see an old lady living there.just the loss of income that put more weight on your mom so mickey could have more control of the house I have had the absolute worst year of my life I need people around me to support me and that's asking too much. It's fine that you do not like me anymore that is called people growing apart it's completely normal but at the same time it's unhealthy to ignore it and pretend it's not happening. The last few years I have seen who my real friends are and I have lost a few on the way. I am calling it on this "friendship". Once I get my daughter I am moving to Kentucky and I already have a house out there. I have blocked all of your family on Facebook along with a few other people I really need to cut contact with Genuinely I hope you get that fire under your ass bust out of your depression and don't make the same mistakes I did. Get a job and your own place you won't believe how good it'll feel. I've been bottling crap up for years for the sake of others and honestly I'm not that person anymore. I apologize for this coming out of seemingly nowhere and wish you and Amanda the best.goodbye. HimJordan your so caught up in your own bullshit I think you may be lost in it, I've always loved you like a big brother and you will always be my brother but your actions have taken you places I'd never thought you go, if this is goodbye I understand. I've been distant over the years trying to find myself, and I enjoy the quiet of keeping too myself I thought as my friend you would respect that but I was wrong I hope you find some kind of peace in this life. You impacted my life more than anyone else has and I want to say thank you you've shown me what men can be at their best and worst. Lead a good life and take care of scarlet you owe it to her and Sam. And as this being goodbye don't come back into my life I don't want it not after everything you felt you had to say I will not argue with you we could go back and forth for hours but if this is what you need man, you find your life do it. I believe in you. Take care of yourself. Me:Kyle you consistently play online games with other people and keep in contact with other people I have seen it firsthand when I lived with you.Like the multiple times you ditched me to go play WoW with your buddies.genuinely I don't know where my actions have taken me that you wouldn't expect I never became an addict all I have done is struggle to find some semblance of stability and failed miserably. You've always had someone to fall back on so you wouldn't understand that. The fact that you were literally just making excuses shows that I'm correct in my decision-making here. I'm not worth an actual explanation or an apology. Just like with the dog. Goodbye.
Summary of the 2019 New South Wales State election parties & independents
This is a cross post from a Medium article I wrote about this, I thought it might be interesting as the state election is next week. The NSW State election is approaching. I decided it was time to find out what each of the parties had to say about their policies. What follows is a brief summary of all the independents and political parties running stand for. I have done by best to provide a good faith reading of these parties and, when relevant, have attempted to clearly notate any editorial comments.
Legislative council parties:
Shooters, Fishers, and Farmers
The Shooters, Fishers, and Farmers are an agrarian, social conservative, and libertarian party whose policy platform is based around ending the government regulation of environmental protections and standards, as well as laws about maintaining native biodiversity which often conflicts with crop plantings. Their main goal is to remove the ability of external forces (governments, courts, or activists) from interfering with the direct commercial goals of land owners as they prize individual property rights which they believe as violated by land reform legislation. Beyond this, they also aim to assist NSW farmers by pushing for drought assistance to combat the current prolonged drought, as well as pushing for further tax cuts aimed at farmers. Like many other current right-wing groups, they have coalesced behind supporting the end of renewable subsidies and pushing for the building of more coal power stations. Uniquely, they also want to end the interconnection of NSW power to other states in a pseudo-isolationist move. This also means that they oppose many policies about regulating carbon and other pollutants, however as they also support deregulated fishing they are currently signalling their difference from the NSW National Party by wanting to prevent further mass fish deaths in the Murray Darling River. As part of their right-wing libertarian streak, this consists of ending most government regulation of gun control, whilst also signalling support of ‘tough on crime’ policies and supporting the police and prison guards.
Socialist Alliance
The Socialist Alliance is a traditional socialist political party who are focused providing a more egalitarian society where wealthy individuals and corporations pay aggressively higher taxes to fund re-distributive policies increase the standard of living for lower income peoples. They also want to expand public transport along with taking privatised assets back into public ownership. They also want to switch to a renewable energy economy and make NSW explicitly anti-racist and a safe haven for refugees. They also believe that our current electoral system is flawed so they wish to introduce a series of electoral reforms to introduce electoral recalls at all levels, and make all levels of government proportional instead of our current mix of representative and proportional government.
Sustainable Australia
Sustainable Australia is focused on what they see as the issue with our current immigration rate. Under their ideological view, having a high immigration is detrimental to Australia as it causes “over-development”, as their website claims, as well as increasing housing costs, and environmental damage. Whilst not explicitly stating it, they appear to be planning on addressing the predicted losses in economic growth from their policies through diversifying the economy. This anti-immigration view covers refugees, as whilst they will allow them to enter the country they believe they should stay around their local region and work be done to improve safety there. From their policy platform, it appears as if Sustainable Australia wants to limit overseas trade as they have policies on restarting Australian manufacturingjobs, which would assist our economy if we were no longer utilising low cost overseas manufacturing sources. However, they appear to be on-board with the current environmental consensus as they want to transition to a renewable energy economy and want to protect natural lands.
Greens
As one of the minor major parties, most of their policy platform should be somewhat known. It is dominated by their positions on the environment where they want to rapidly transition towards an entirely renewable energy sector, as well as more general policies about reversing environmental pollution of air, land, and water-bodies. Broadly, they are the most prominent socially and economically progressive party in NSW at the moment. However, they are anti-genetically modified crops [Ed. note — this is due to a flawed belief that ‘organic’ food is better than modified, which is not supported by any current research consensus.] Of note is a current “civil war” within the NSW Greens between the two faction which respectively believe that the Greens should be focused entirely on the environment, and the other who believe that they should be a vehicle for broader democratic socialist policies. However, there has yet to be any noticeable policy arguments (publicly at least) around this, so the factional struggle may be personality based.
Animal Justice Party
The animal justice party is a leftist political organisation based strongly around broadening animal rights and protections. The majority of their policies are to do with ending the killing, or harming of animals in any way. Seem to want to end the use of companion animals (pets) in general but are addressing that bit by bit by limiting how you can adopt animals. They also view population growth as bad for animals and the environment and thus believe we should keep growth at replacement rate, which implies limiting immigration. However, limited policy detail on environmental and climate action policies, broadly says we need a carbon tax and to shift to a renewable power economy.
Ah, FLUX. FLUX is not a political party in the traditional sense as they have no actual policies in of themselves. They’re a single issue party, which wants to more or less end our Representational Democracy model and replace it with an electronic platform which is a mix of Direct, Representational, and Delegate Democracy where you use ‘an app’ to either directly vote, or nominate someone to vote for you on every piece of legislation in parliament. Legislation, which I assume is also crowd sourced? [Ed. note — INTERESTING. Meow-Ludo Meow-Meow (real person) who has been a candidate for the Science Party (formerly the Future Party, now running as the James Jansson group) for the last couple of elections has moved to FLUX and is the candidate for Willoughby. You may know him as the dude who put the OPAL chip inside his hand.]
LaboCountry Labor
NSW Labor has a typical modern centre-left policy platform. However, of note is their recent moves to ban single use plastic bags, phase out single use plastics, invest ~$140 million into local recycling projects, and of particular note they claim to want to seek a treaty with the NSW indigenous peopleswhich would replicate similar treaties in Canada and New Zealand. This treaty would cover: recognition of historical wrongs, addressing health and education services, and language rights. This election, NSW Labor is trying to differentiate themselves from the Liberal Party by emphasising their goals to decrease housing and hospital costs, as well as addressing industrial concerns, such as wage theft and underpayment, as well as providing increased services such as more education facilities and free public transport for children. Another policy difference is their goal to divert the currently allocated funds for stadium redevelopments towards other policies such as renewable powered air conditioning for public schools. They also wish to legislate 10 days paid domestic violence pay, in addition to investing $158 million towards building new domestic violence and sexual assault courts, increased victim compensation, and increased funding to shelters and advocacy groups.
Liberal/The Nationals
The Liberal/National coalition will be running this campaign based on their record over the last eight years which has constituted increased building of private toll motorways as well as the building of more commuter lines, specifically the light rail and North-West Metro. The party however has been dogged by their more draconian policies around nightlife and music policiesin general. This has been paired with their alleged failures on environmental policies based on the recent spate of mass fish deaths in regional NSW resulting from widespread rorting of water resources by the large commercial cotton farms.
Australian Conservatives
The Australian Conservatives are a factional splinter of the Liberal Party of Australia. They were started by Cory Bernardi who left the party because of his views of the “corrosive left” of the Liberal Party. As such, they are an extremely conservative party. Their policy agenda does not meaningfully move away from orthodox right-wing business politics, and government regulation, as they are libertarian on this front. Their main focus is on ‘white resentment’ politics. This is as their most detailed policy statements deal with ending “gender reassignment” and “political indoctrination”. Their main goals is to realign Australian with their conservative views on what it means to be an Australian, that is to be white and hetero-normative [Ed.]. Broadly they are quite similar to the current Republican party in American in terms of their social and economic views. This party is part of the current wave of populist(whilst not actually being populist as their policies will benefit the 1% primarily) “Western Civilisation” politics based around Nationalism and anti-leftism.
Keep Sydney Open
Keep Sydney Open appear to be a civil libertarian party based around getting the government and its regulation out of the music scene and Sydney nightlife. Their main party agenda is the end the Sydney Lockout laws and the current government’s policies around policing music festivals. Have no really stated political goals outside of this niche beyond some language around a stronger ICAC, and introducing 24 hr public transport. Of note, not actually running a candidate in the Seat of Sydney, where the lockout laws apply.
Liberal Democrats
The Liberal Democrats are an aggressively libertarian party whose only elected member is David Leyonhjelm. The main thrust of this party is promoting “individual liberty”, which is mostly expressed as reducing the ability of governments to enact regulatory legislation, and letting businesses pay less tax. They see effectively no place for the government beyond Defence, and maintaining property rights. Editorial: the Liberal Democrats use a very American strategy of campaigning, which is “triggering the left”. They’ve also engaged in sexist and racist behaviours in their effort to gain votes from the same constituency of One Nation, Australian Conservatives, and Men’s Rights Activists.
Voluntary Euthanasia Party
The VEP are a single issue party, and that is enacting legislation for voluntary assisted dying. They appear to be a party dedicated to ensuring quality of life up until death through both allowing death to happen on your own terms, increasing palliative care, and improving access to medical cannabis. Beyond that, they claim to be a moderate progressive party and will vote on a case by case basis for all legislation under that framework.
Christian Democratic Party
Otherwise known as the Fred Nile Christian Democratic party. A Christian religious party aiming to “glorify God in government”. Under that framework, are pro-business. Their main niche is ensuring that NSW remains a tacitly Christian state by legislating SRE classes (they’re the ones who made SRE mandatory and that you have to specifically opt out, whilst also making information about that hard to find). This party is extremely conservative about sexuality and gender identity and believe that there is only two gendersand you should only be heterosexual, and thus want to remove the Safe Schools program.
Small Business Party
Another neoliberal business party whose policy focus is on cutting business taxes and regulation, claiming they’re a drain on the economy. This extends to wanting to reduce housing Stamp duties and power prices. Also are anti-immigration as they claiming current NSW immigration is unsustainable and there is no place for them here. [Ed. note — current immigration rate is reason we’re not in a recession at the moment.]
Pauline Hanson’s One Nation
One Nation is the most prevalent of the current Australian mainstream populist (whilst not being popular) ‘white resentment’ political parties. Under the NSW leader Mark Latham — whohas a colourful past — the party has taken a specifically Men’s Rights Activist lens as it has explicit platforms on their idea that white men are being repressed in our society.
Outlaw the new Left-wing discrimination against men, boys, Christians and white people, including a ban on discriminatory ‘employment quotas’ and segregationist ‘safe spaces’ —One Nation policy outline
This platform extends towards explicitly racist policies, and removing recognition of transgender people’s rights. These policies manifest themselves through their anti-Islamist rhetoric, claiming that they’ll end “Islamic Radicalisation in schools”, being anti-multiculturalism, and putting forward a policy that only individuals who “pass” a genetic test [Ed. note — which is bullshit] can get Indigenous peoples specific social welfare. These policies around Indigenous peoples also extend to the Indigenous Land Reform Councils as they claim they’re hoarding billions of dollars which should be taken. Like other prominent white resentment parties, One Nation also supports pro-business reforms such as protectionist policies to maintain monopolies, and cutting their taxes and regulations, as well as being anti-renewable energy and fixated on coal power.
Seniors United Party of Australia (group G)
The Seniors United Party is pushing forward a policy agenda aimed specifically at senior citizens, such as being focused on increased funding and undoing of Liberal/National cuts to superannuation. They also wants oversight and regulation of aged care providers. However, like many other parties running in this election, they are a anti-immigration party and wants to see reduced in overall migration levels.
Monaghan and Monaghan (group H)
This is a husband and wife duo from the northern beaches and the majority of policies appear to be focused on a “not in my backyard (NIMBY)” agenda in regards to the Northern Beaches. However also wants to ban brothels and 24/7 gambling, and very specifically the Woolworths in Mosman.
Jeremy Buckingham Greens splinter group (group L)
Buckingham is a former Greens MLC who left/got kicked out of the party over allegations he committed an act of “sexual violence”* towards a staff member. This was investigated and dropped due to insufficient evidence to substantiate the allegation. Teamed up with Alan Jones to help stop coal seam gas mining His policies are a little hard to nail down as his content is limited on his website, but based around his previous statements it broadly aligns with the environmental aspects of his former party, the NSW Greens. Of note however, is his desired collaboration with American Tech Baron, Elon Musk, to build a tunnel through the Blue Mountains from Western Sydney to Lithgow. \allegation was revealed under parliamentary privilege by Newtown MP Jenny Leong. May have been done as part of the current NSW Greens civil war over whether or not they should be a climate action party or a more broadly socialist party.*
James Jansson (group S)
A re-branding of the Science Party as they aren’t registered at State level. Focused on increased transportation, housing density, etc. Seem to be greenish Radical Centrist party with focus on changing regulation and increasing funding without really rocking the boat or doing anything substantial.
Various Independents
Tony Edwards: no clear policy directions stated, with more of a general anti-right perspective. Ellie Robinson: Anti-corruption platform and wants to address climate change, disability rights, animal justice, indigenous rights. John Brett: anti-national debt candidate, focus on removing foreign involvement and getting more people back into trade jobs. Ron Bogan: pro euthanasia, helping out senior citizens, pro-National Energy Guarantee (therefore neoliberal on climate action), focus on the Shire and Western Sydney. Campaign slogan — “put a bogan in parliament” John Hunter: no information online about him. Bryn Hutchinson: “progressive independent” — focus on police accountability and a NSW Human Rights Act. Danny Lim: this is the guy with the billboard hanging around Newtown and the city who’s billboard said “Tony [Abbott] you cvn’t.” From what I can find, running principles of egalitarianism, anti-racism, broadly leftist, pro-renewable energy, investing in public healthcare, removing private healthcare insurance rebate, increasing refugee intake. Andre Brokman: found his Medium blog — pro-Council amalgamations to increase centralisation and reduce ‘chaos’ in Sydney planning, appears to be a transportation enthusiast. His bio: “Andre Brokman is a full time city planning student and part time uber driver”
MAME 0.196, our March release, is here just in time for Easter, and it’s packed with all the goodness you’ve come to expect. In a very exciting development, Team Caps0ff have extracted the C-chip data for Volfied, Superman, Rainbow Islands, and most importantly, Bonze Adventure. This cleanly fixes some of the most long-standing emulation issues in MAME. The improvements to Sega Model 2 have continued, with Virtua Fighter 2 and Motor Raid now considered working. Other Model 2 games are greatly improved as well. For fans of 8-bit home computers, MAME 0.196 has improved ZX Spectrum family emulation, fixing many graphical glitches. A QuikLoad option has been added to several CP/M-80 machines, allowing .COM files to be loaded directly after the operating system has booted. Emulated IEEE-488 (GPIB) can now be tunnelled over sockets, opening up the possibility to simulate peripherals outside MAME. Interpro progress has continued, and is now at the point where you can boot the rebuild floppy. Other new working arcade games include Big Buck Hunter, an older joystick-controlled version of Ghox, and a rare unprotected version of Opa Opa. With some fixes to our vector maths, War: The Final Assault is working, and Gunpey has been made playable using decompressed sprite data extracted from a working board. New LCD hand-helds include Dennis the Menace, Double Dragon 3, Jurassic Park, Spider-Man, The Addams Family, The Flash, and X-Men - Project X. In an emulation first, MAME 0.196 supports QSound DSP emulation. For now, it’s only enabled for the vgmplay driver by default, and it requires a fairly fast computer to emulate at full speed. It will be enabled by default when system requirements are a bit more modest. The SH-4 recompiler has been enabled by default for Dreamcast-derived systems, giving substantial performance improvements. Of course, there are plenty of other improvements. As always, source and Windows binaries are available from the download page.

Summary of Pasquale Rotella's AMA -- Questions & Answers inside!
Questions and answers (and follow up questions and answers) below! I will be updating this until it's a full record of the Q&A, as well as any that Pasquale feels like answering later tonight. AMA Link here
Q: Will you be walking around during edc orlando interacting with fans?Link
A: It's something that I love to do and always find time for. Hope we cross paths at EDC Orlando!
Q: What are your plans for fixing the insane wait times (4-8hrs) and under-utilization of speedway roadways for campEDC check-in? also on the topic of campEDC, is there a plan sell RV pumpout/fresh water passes ONLINE alongside the RV camping pass purchase? (the wait at the general store was brutal.....). Maybe have 2 general stores if online purchase isn't an option?Link
A: Last year's wait times were unacceptable. Fixing that and other processes is one of our main focuses for Camp EDC. We've had many planning meetings just about this. We will have a revised entrance plan that includes more lanes with more people working, check-in staff will be more experienced, and we'll have better processes all around without sacrificing the safety of you, the Headliner. We're also extending check-in hours to spread out the traffic ingress.
Q: Can we have a Pasquale DJ Set at EDC or any insomniac events?Link
A: No plans this year but I'd like to dust off my crates as soon as I get time.
Q: What ever happened to the giant electric Daisy 🌼 and will it ever return????Link
A: I loved that daisy, the artists did an amazing job! I have imagined bringing it back many times. Thank you for the motivation to work on it. No guarantees though as it was a collaboration between Insomniac and the artist troop that we commissioned the piece with. I will definitely reach out to them and work on it!
A: I'm very excited about this years theme. Big announcement coming soon! I was just looking at the new kinetic stage design and WOW I can't wait for you guys to see it.
Q: Do you ever plan on bringing back the megastructure?Link
A: No plan for right now. If we did bring it back it would not be for circuitGROUNDS, as that area is too large. But it could work for another stage and has been considered.
Q: Hey Pasquale! Do you have a favourite non-Insomniac festival?Link
Q: Out of all your festivals, what has been your favorite stage design?Link
A: The kineticFIELD Cathedral but that might change after next years EDC.
Q: What is your ultimate favorite EDM genre? Also, your ultimate favorite artist (that you never get sick of)?Link
A: I bounce around a lot and can’t listen to only one genre of dance music, but I do gravitate towards drum and bass, house, techno, and I’m also really loving a lot of the bass house that’s coming out right now. I would say CamelPhat, Redlight, Dombresky and Fisher are the guys are the guys that I’ve been playing in my car for the last couple days.
Q: Can you give a clue as to who is headlining DOTD?Link
A: It's ZEFINITELY gonna be fun.
AP2: Oh, and we're dropping the lineup today at 4:30. Keep an eye out!
Q: Would you ever consider making a second part, that included some more stories and more experiences? If so, how would one get cast? Also bring back EDC ColoradoLink
A: I think one day we will do it again. No plans on how we would cast it and no plans for an EDC in Denver although we do love it there.
Q: What change are you most excited about for EDC 2019?Link
A: There is not any one change that gets me excited, improving all aspects of the event is the most exciting goal. I'm always looking to improve and make things better. Camp EDC is a focus, new stages, new lineup, new art, creative aspects we've been working on that finally come to fruition, better processes, better logistics, and just an overall better experience. It's all equally important to me.
A: We weren't going to be able to produce and event that measured up to our standards when it comes to experience and safety. If anyone has a unique situation where they've been effected beyond just having to get a ticket refund, I'd like to know more about it personally. Please have them email [email protected] and in the subject line write Sacred Valley/Reddit AMA. Myself or another Insomniac will get back to them. I can't guarantee that we can satisfy everyone, but we will do our best.
Q: Are there any plans to bring EDC back to Europe?Link
A: Yes, I'm excited to say I'm in the middle of planning that now
Q: I found out that my mother in law used to be close to the Insomniac family. She was mamá Irene's hairdresser and claims she taught her how to DANCE🕺 She said she used to be best friends with your sister Nicole. Do you remember Dimpna?Link
A: My mom was very social, loved to get her hair did, and she was always trying to learn new dance moves. She did have some of her own as well. I don’t recall meeting Dimpna, but that doesn’t mean much because my mom would introduce me to fifty new people every time I was with her.
Q: Serious question, are all the stage names and/or designs all related to Physics? For example, Kinetic field- kinetic energy is the energy of motion (people dancing). Circuit grounds, the stage had large screens all around with bars connecting each screen(like a circuit). Quantum valley, a bunch of box shaped screens on stage and the quani’s movement was first discovered in a box. Am I crazy or am I catching on to something?Link
A: You're catching on to something and maybe you should work here!
Q: How are experiences going to differ from GA+ and VIP this year?Link
A: We wanted to introduce a midway point between GA and VIP. GA+ elevates your festival experience with expedited, dedicated GA+ entry and special access to premium, air-conditioned restrooms. We're always pushing to enhance the VIP experience every year and VIP amenities can be found at edclasvegas.com/VIP.
Q: Hi Pasquale have you considered doing an EDC Passport for all the EDC’s in a year?Link
A: We're planning something super unique that we’ve never done before, and I’m very excited to announce it before the end of the year. It includes what you’re describing and much, much more.
Q: Would one be able to refund their EDC ticket or pay the remaining balance between their EDC ticket and said potential 'Passport'?
A: The program is still being developed so I don't want to dive too deep into details, but anything we do will not apply to EDC Las Vegas 2019.
A: They will be evenly spread out along the strip and downtown. Most will be the same as last year, with the exception of Tropicana, but we are working on a replacement for the south strip as well as adding more locations.
Q: I have been taking my 60 year old mother to EDC the past two years now, this upcoming EDC will be her third! She absolutely loves it! Besides ADA accessibility do you have plans to help accommodate older ravers? Example: she had a hard time walking to the shuttles/parking lots and we did not want to spend $40 for someone to bike us out to our shuttle/car. I would love to see insomniac help older ravers during those times.Link
A: First of all, I love you for bringing your Mom to the festival! I want to see more generations enjoying this beautiful culture and community. I welcome all ideas on how we can encourage and support all the seasoned ravers who want to continue attending our events. If you have ideas hit us up at [email protected].
Q: Is there anything you wish you could offer or provide your event attendees that isn't possible currently?Link
A: The ability to help them with real life problems, but I'm working on it!
Q: How far in advance is EDC planned? Like does Insomniac already have a theme set for say the next 5 EDCs or do you all just kind of go with the flow?Link
A: There is a flow to what we do but we definitely plan in advance. We started planning EDC Vegas 2019 before 2018 even happened.
Q: Do you already have big surprises planned for EDC 2019? If so, can you give even the slightest hint of what we're in store for?Link
A: Yes, there are many surprises! Right now, just because I was working on it earlier this morning, I have to say the kineticFIELD stage might be the most epic stage we’ll have in the history of EDC.
A: I want Middlelands back but we can't bring it back unless we have the right venue. I'm never gonna give up, I'm not giving up on that. We're going to find a venue we just haven't found it yet.
Q: What’s your favorite part about edc even after so many years?Link
A: How much value it brings to people's lives
Q: How many total fireworks do you set off over the 3 days?Link
A: Over the course of three nights, around 15,000 fireworks are shot off.
Q: During security check at festivals, a lot of the security guards have been groping and using unethical forms of search. How can we protect ourselves from this?Link
A: We take this issue very, very seriously, and we ask that anyone who experiences something like this immediately take note of the guard's jacket number and reach out to a supervisor or an Insomniac staff member to make us aware. You can also reach out to me on my personal socials and our Insomniac socials. We're always listening.
Q: Any chance to get the DJs from my hay day such as Richard Vision, DJ Irene, Bad Boy Bill, just to name a few?Link
A: If you want to check out DJ Irene, she's actually playing the Freshjive event going on at Bodega this Saturday which we're involved with and supporting!
Q: What is one thing at EDC that you think most attendees miss out on during the 3 days there? Or what is something every attendee should do while at EDC?Link
A: I think one of the things people are missing out on is Camp EDC. Aside from the entrance experience that is going to be fixed, the energy and vibe there was so unique and I was really excited about it. At EDC itself, I would say checking out the nooks and crannies like the saloon and the live band in there. Of course, seeing an amazing DJ at the big stages is cool but I really think looking out for artists you've never heard of or up-and-coming DJs is something everyone should do.
Q: I've been to Nocturnal 3 times, and it definitely is my favorite festival, the camping experience makes everything better. That being said, I've never been to Camp OG till this year. It blew my mind! It felt like a 90s rave (from what I've seen in videos of old raves) and some jungle, dnb and breakbeats after the rave feels sooooo freaken good. Why isn't Camp OG promoted a little more?Link
A: Thanks for sharing your experience. I also love those guys. They're the first group of people that supported Insomniac and have been loyal supporters since 1993. It very much does have that old-school vibe. We don't promote it because it's renegade and underground. Stumbling on it is part of the fun, and there's no guarantee that anything will be going on at any given time.
Q: Are there any plans to update EDC's streaming coverage? It is pretty unsatisfying to see 15-30 minutes of a set and feel that limiting it to two or three stages permanently would be far better viewer experience than getting chopped up sets. If you do go that route, Neon Garden has to be one of them!Link
A: We are planning to do multiple channels which will allow multiple stages and full sets to be streamed
Q: What are your thoughts on having drug test kits available at your events?Link
A: I’ve actually had DanceSafe at our events a while back, but when the venue, the local authorities, and the insurers are opposed to it, you won’t have that city or location as an option. It’s already hard enough to find venues where I can organize events. Unfortunately some people view partnering with DanceSafe or other harm reduction groups as endorsing drug use rather than keeping people safe, and that can prevent producers from getting locations and organizing events.
Q: What type of team does it take to put together an event on this scale? Who designs your amazing stages year after year?Link
A: There are about 100 Insomniacs here in the office working on the festival year-round, but we actually subcontract out thousands of staff during the festival. I personally work on all of the stages with the creative department here at Insomniac HQ and we also collaborate with outside artists, which changes from year to year depending on the stage and event.
Q: My group and I will be first time EDC attendees in 2019, do you have any tips for us?Link
A: Wear comfy shoes, stay hydrated, plan a meeting spot with your crew, and dress up to contribute to the atmosphere (that's always appreciated). When you walk through the gates imagine walking through a portal that allows you to leave all judgement behind and open your heart, be your best self, and put out the best energy you have.
Q: Is it a possibility artists can use their own visuals on Kinetic this year?Link
A: It's always possible. We've done that before and it's better when its a collaboration so it's not a bunch of flashing logos and instead it is art that ties into the stage and theme.
Q: How would I go about trying to get my foot in the door with Insomniac?Link
A: I appreciate you having interest in working at Insomniac. When there are job openings, they become available on Insomniac.com. In addition, there are also opportunities with on-site teams including Ground Control, Customer Experience, and our Merchandise department. Keep an eye out for more information!
Q: Can you consider having more places to sit and relax at EDC? There seemed to be only one local area with picnic tables and fake grass but it was pretty filthy and limited in seating.Link
A: I agree with you about the cleanliness of Carnival Square. We're demanding that the clean-up company we used last year perform better. If you're looking to chill, the art areas on either side of cosmicMEADOW are awesome. And one of the best views in the house is on the grandstands where there are lots of seats.
Q: I am devastated to hear about you and Holly. You two were the “goals” couple hands down. What is the best relationship advice would you give?Link
A: Thank you for the nice note. I hope that Holly and I can still inspire people to have amazing relationships even when they change. She is one of my best friends and you’ll still be seeing us roaming the grounds at EDC Las Vegas. Honesty, communication, and a strong connection are all things that support healthy relationships.
Q: What do you do now for fun that you did as a child?Link
A: Surf, rave, sleep, and eat.
Q: What is a food/drink you HAVE to have at least once a week?
A: Mint chip ice cream.
Q: When are you gonna headline the mainstage at EDCLV?
A: That's super flattering but I don't ever see myself headlining MainStage .Maybe on an art car one year.
Q: What do you think your kids will listen to when they get older?
A: I feel like my kids will listen to a little bit of everything because they're exposed to so many different kinds of music that they wont limit themselves.
Q: What would you do if they liked country?
A: I would take them to Stagecoach and on the way we'd continue to listening to Night Owl Radio.
Q: Favorite movie?
A: There is so many but off the top of my head I like the original Dogwtown movie, Boogie Nights, The Godfather, The Breakfast Club, Braveheart, Saving Private Ryan, Back to the Future, Casino, and so many more
A: My first rave was in 1991 in downtown Los Angeles on Oak Street in a place called La Casa. I didn't know the name of it because I didn't even know where the hell I was going. My friends took me!
Q: Would you ever consider bringing back a seperate stage for the discovery project like in 2014?Link
A: We will do this again, no plans right now. At EDC, we still have an art car that hosts these artists for a night.
Q: Last year you mentioned some form of Insomniac Production museum filled with stuff from the events. Any update on that?Link
A: Still working on it. It's one of many goals and it's going to be a while. I envision the museum being at a permanent festival site and that's not easy to come by, we're always looking for a potential place.
Q: I loved that you guys added a green laser above rainbow row. It was beautiful. But why not take it up a notch, and have a laser show at the top of the hour? Maybe Lasers from different directions/places in the speedway will overlap the entire venue. This could probably be during fireworks tooLink
A: Thanks for the creative suggestion! It sounds like something we could really have fun with and we’ll definitely explore this.
Q: How do you plan on expanding from the success of the shuttles this year?Link
A: Thank you for sharing. I'm so glad to hear the experience was better for you. The plan is to continue to push forward and enhance things that have room to be better. If there's something specific you believe we could improve upon, I'd love to hear about it.
Q: Who are your top 5 favorite artists to book?Link
A: I’m grateful for any artist being there who we know will put their heart and soul into their set and rock the stage. Some characters that stand out to me are Fisher, Zomboy, Carl Cox and Tiësto.
Q: Will we ever see Insomniac return to Texas?Link
A: We love Texas! There are no events planned right now, but we'll stop by with something every so often.
Q: Is there any sort of timeline when we might see a redesign for Wasteland?Link
A: Next year will be the last year we use that particular centerpiece where the DJ performs. We will reconfigure the containers and there will be some enhancements, but it's not going to get a new design until 2020.
Q: How come DNB has been slowly phased out of festivals? It used to get its own stage and now we’re lucky to have 5 artists for a 2 day event. And they’re all on early in the night. Why don’t we get the same range of artists as the other genres?Link
A: I am a huge fan of drum and bass and continue to push it at the festivals. The reason why there’s not as many artists as I would like and not always playing at peak times of the festival is because when we’ve done it, the turnout is low. You drum and bass heads should posse up and support and when we see it’s packed for them, we will add more artists and give them even better time slots.
Q: What do you think will be the next big thing in terms of productions at festivals? The fire, smoke, fireworks, fountains, and lights all tap into our senses and I'm curious what could be used additionally to create a total immersion at events.Link
A: Technology is changing but Insomniac is always keeping an eye out for what's next. We've explored VR, AR, and holograms, and we'll continue to feature those technologies in impactful ways. We're always looking for new ideas and new ways to enhance the experience. All I know is, EDC Las Vegas 2030 isn't going to look like EDC Las Vegas 2020!
Q: What do you guys look for in new artists that are trying to play EDC Las Vegas 2019?Link
A: We’re looking for artists who have the skillset to produce amazing tracks on their own as well as a sound that is unique from what other artists are doing. It’s always a bonus if they’ve already put themselves out there and people in the dance music community are excited to see them.
Q: Is it possible to create a no fly zone for Helicopters over the campground this year?Link
A: Thanks for making me aware! That sounds pretty annoying. We'll talk to the FAA and Nellis Air Force Base and see what we can do.
Q: What would you say was your biggest success last EDCLV?Link
A: I was very happy with the improvements to the shuttle operation and my negotiation with Mother Nature definitely paid off. Although there were challenges, I was happy with Camp EDC and the way the Kinetic Love stage turned out. With that said, everything can always be better.
Q: I’ve been going to EDC for years now and I absolutely loved the stage designs in 2013. The giant caterpillar at Beyond, the grim reaper at Escape, and the giant owl opening up at EDC with all the flowers and mushrooms around it. Would you ever bring anything like that back?Link
A: Those are some of my favorite stages, too. There are certain things that limit what we can do, but we'll surprise you with new stuff all the time.
Q: Is there any chance of actually doing a live VR experience for headliners at home? I heard this was a possibility a year or two ago, but what ever happened with it?Link
A: We’re still closely watching how the technology advances but I don’t feel that it’s there just yet to really have it to be a main focus, but we’ll continue to watch.
Q: Will the megastucture ever come back? Can Quantum Valley be in the megastructure? Can Neon Garden be a tent again? Will there ever be valet parking again? Can the bars start selling whole bottles of wine? Can beers please not be $15 each?Link
A: First off, I love you. Keep spittin' those question! Maybe the megastructure will come back, but not as the circuitGROUNDS. quantumVALLEY has been considered but that's not the plan for right now. We're trying something else. Before considering going back to a tent for neonGARDEN, we're looking at making 2018's experience better. There were a lot of logistical challenges with valet at EDC, so until those are figured out that's not something we'll be offering. I haven't asked the venue if they have the ability to sell boxed or large containers of wine, but that's an interesting idea. We don't set the prices for food and beverage at EDC Las Vegas. I always ask the Speedway to bring the prices down -- and will continue to ask -- but it's difficult because we don't operate that aspect of the festival.
A: We use third party ticket agencies that charge fees for their services to cover the cost of their expenses which include staff being on hand to support your purchases and making sure the website doesn’t crash. There’s also taxes and handling associated with each order that have to be covered. I hope this answers your question!
Q: What is your most memorable encounter with a fellow headliner?Link
A: I have so many! The most recent would be my phone call to a father and daughter that participated in #myedcmoments. Hearing their stories made me tear up it was so heartwarming. It felt really good to make sure they're going to be able to attend EDC Las Vegas 2019. I'm actually going to be posting that video soon. Look out for it.
Q: Any chance on having craft beer at any of the San Bernardino events?Link
A: The food and drink experience is very different from one venue to another, and some venues need more improvement than others. Whether that's pricing, variety, or quality, I agree it can all be better. The challenge is that venues usually dictate/operate this side of the festival experience. I am constantly pushing them to be better -- and there have been improvements -- but the progression is slow. I will continue pushing because I want you to be able to enjoy a quality brewski...and much more.
Misc questions answered by Insomniac_Events (official Insomniac reddit account)
Q: Quick question, my dad tried surprising me with my EDC ticket this year by purchasing the early release tickets (which was awesome!) but he didn't really know what he was doing and accidentally purchased GA+ not knowing there was a difference. How do we change that to a regular GA pass so he's not over spending on what I'll be using?Link
A: Please reach out to support.frontgatetickets.com to inquire about making a switch!
Q: Are the CampEDC tickets separate from the regular tickets? If so, do the camp tickets have layaway plan as well? Will last years be the same as this years (I’ve read the CampEDC thread and just want to be sure).Link
A: Hello! EDC tickets go on sale Friday, with Camp EDC info, pricing, and tickets coming later. EDC tickets and Camping Packages will be sold separately. We recommend getting your EDC ticket early, and planning for camping to go on sale at a later date. Layaway plans will be available for both tickets and camping.
Q: Do we get hooked up with tickets for posting our edc moments on reddit?Link
A: Share your #MyEDCMoments on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook!
Q: The Camp EDC pool party was epic! Any changes you’re considering or anything you thought could have been better? Camping again without a doubt. Loved it!Link
